SSAW stands for Spiral Submerged Arc Welded pipe. These pipes are manufactured using a hot-rolled steel coil that is spirally formed into a pipe shape and then welded using submerged arc welding both inside and outside the seam. This continuous spiral forming allows for pipes of varying diameters to be produced from a single steel coil, offering versatility in both design and cost control.
The spiral welding technique also distributes stress more evenly across the pipe wall compared to longitudinal welded pipes, making SSAW pipes suitable for high-load applications and dynamic pressure environments.
